"Whenever I advocate for a child it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I know that I can give something that I myself didn’t have while in foster care. Being the voice for a child in foster care makes me feel like I am making a difference for them."

— Angela Norward, GAL since 2012

One of our awesome GAL’s, Amanda Rose, volunteered at "The Bridge Camp" which is for children 8 years old to 18 years old (still in school) currently in foster care OR were adopted from foster care in the last year. Here is her testimony:

I had the most humbling, uncomfortable, sobering experience of my entire life tonight. The Bridge Camp was everything I didn't think it would be. To be honest, the marketing for this camp is pretty crappy- BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE. You cannot post pictures of these children's faces. You cannot tell the circumstances that brought them into care. You can only say to people, "Hey! Come volunteer at this camp! It's amazing and life changing. I promise!" And hope they believe you. But let me tell you right now- it really is amazing. And it really did change my life. I can absolutely promise you that.

The District 26 GAL program made One Simple Wish’s Top Ten list of community partners. We (along with 9 other cities across the country) had the most wishes
granted for children in foster care. Please go to www.onesimplewish.org to learn more!
