Meet Some of  Our Volunteer Advocates

"Being a GAL is important to me because I feel strongly that, as a society, we must do everything in our power to protect children.  If I can fiercely advocate for children who have been abused and/or neglected I believe that I am actively contributing to that social responsibility. It is my honor and privilege to do so."

GAL Volunteer: Jan Morgan- “We must do everything in our power to protect our children. Being a GAL is an honor and privilege that is important to me”

"As a child of the system myself I understand what it's like to not have a voice. Not having that voice for you can cause you to walk a lonely, dark path in life. Knowing what a difference having a voice could make in a child's life is what made me become a GAL."

GAL Volunteer: Cathy James- “When I was in the system, I didn’t have someone speak for me. Giving my voice, assures no child is walking alone.”

"I became a Guardian ad Litem because I wanted to work with children that had no voice for themselves. It gave me hope and purpose and was a big stepping stone that put me on a career path for advocacy. Children give me hope and that is something that you cannot buy. I have been a Guardian ad Litem since 2016, and I have enjoyed the journey thus far." GAL Volunteer: Tremaine Palmer- “Providing a child my voice gives me hope and purpose

"Thanks so much for the opportunity to share my thoughts about the Guardian ad Litem program.  At age 64, I've helped many years with volunteer organizations--my church, my children's school, the YMCA--but not one has been more hands-on with people who need people than the GAL program.  Our children need us, and the GAL program gives us the opportunity to fill part of that need in the most effective way anyone can imagine."

GAL Volunteer: Agnes Powell- “Out of all my volunteer experiences, NC GAL has allowed me to fulfill a great need for the children”
